Q1. Why is there a service charge to get access to my account back when Hotmail is a free service?
A1. Firstly, because Hotmail has got more than a Billion email account users, Hotmail does not have the funds or resources to set-up a contact center or phone line to handle such a large volume of users. That is the reason why normal account users cannot contact Hotmail by phone. Secondly, this charge is solely for our service of getting your account back. You do not have access to your account because you have either been a victim of phishing email or hacking or a virus/malware infection, this is because you have not taken proper security measures and/or installed proper security/protection on your computer. In the event that you have forgotten your password and/or have no access to your alternate email, this charge still applies. We will charge you only after the issue has been resolved.

Q4. What can I do to make sure that this does not happen again?
A4. Always make sure that you do not reply to any email which claims that your Hotmail account will be blocked, if you do not reply with your personal details including your password, etc. Ensure that your computer is protected at all times by using an antivirus, anti-malware and an active firewall.
